Flexibility (and my lack thereof)

I'm not flexible.

Because of this, I've learned that it takes lots of work and lots of dedication to improve your flexibility. Then it takes even more dedication to maintain that flexibility, and at the same time, trying to continue to improve it.

It's the same way with God and His Word. If we want to strengthen our faith, it won't happen overnight.

It takes lots of work and dedication to maintain that faith and at the same time, always working on improving it.

When stretching, you know it hurts to wear jeans. You're just not going to get very far. You wear sweatpants, or a skirt and tights. You have to change your clothes to be more comfortable and get further into your stretch.

Same with God. Until you change from your old, sinful life, you're never going to be comfortable with God. You need to change your life to be able to 'stretch' with God.

You don't need to change your whole life, or your whole outfit. Try to pick up your Bible every once and a while, don't let it collect dust. Pray every night before you go to bed.

You'll notice that as you slowly change your life for the better, you'll be able to stretch further and further and become more and more comfortable in your life with God.

During you stretching routine, if you miss a few days in a row, you'll be more and more inclined to miss more and more days.

Again, same with God and His Word. If you skip an opportunity to pray, or a chance to read your Bible, you will become more and more inclined to miss more of those opportunities. You (and I) will get in the mindset of 'Well, I missed one day, what will one more missed day do?'

I'm speaking from experience. That, my friends, is a bad mindset to be in.

Maddi, I love how you write -- simply, profoundly, putting a twist on things you'd think are obvious enough but aren't.

Thank you.

Excellent post, Maddi. Great analogy between physical conditioning and spiritual conditioning!
